#068 PLEASE DON'T KILL YOURSELF

Image
First of all I want you to know you are not the first one who have experienced it. Many people have thought about it at least once in life, however please read it. Don't kill yourself today because  if you do, your mother or that one who lives with you will come to your room to wake you up, only to realize that your heart isn't beating. Don't kill yourself today because  that person will hold your cold, dead body. While sobbing uncontrollably with the realization that she will never get to hold you again. Don't kill yourself today because  when they address your death at school, university or work, your best friend or that colleague will be sitting in class or at work, completely frozen and destroyed. Don't kill yourself today because  your best friend or maybe the only person who you once thought loved you will be too sad to do anything for weeks. She will have blamed herself for your suicide, and will ask herself why she couldn't do anything for you. S...

#023 THE ELEPHANT AND THE ROPE

Image
As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not. He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away.  “Well,” trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.” The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were. Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply bec...

#019 WHAT IS THAT?

Image
An old man sits with his grown up son on a bench outside their house. The day is sunny and clear. The son is reading a newspaper, and ignoring his father. The father looks emptily into the bright garden before him. Then, a sparrow flies into a nearby bush. "What's that?" asks the old man instinctively. "A sparrow" replies the young man nonchalantly, without looking up. The old man justs sits quietly. Then, the sparrow flies up into the tree under which they are sitting. The old man looks up, and asks the son again, "What's that?" “A sparrow!” the young man says a little louder, looking a bit annoyed now. The old man continues to sit quietly as before. Then, the sparrow flies onto the green grass before them, happily pecking at seeds and bugs on the ground. “What’s that?” asks the father a third time. This annoys the young man greatly. He puts down his papers, looks at his father really upset, and shouts: “It’s a sparrow, ...

#008 ARE YOU A CARROT, AN EGG, OR A COFFEE BEAN?

Image
A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her.  She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up.  She was tired of fighting and struggling.  It seemed as one problem was solved a new one arose. Her mother took her to the kitchen.  She filled three pots with water.  In the first, she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil without saying a word.  In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners.  She dished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl.  She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl.  Then she ladled the coffee into a bowl.  Turning to her daughter, she asked, “Tell me what you see?” “Carrots, eggs, and coffee,” she replied. She brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots.  She did and noted that they were soft.  She then asked her to take a...

#006 POOR FAMILY AND THE COW

Image
A poor family lives in a remote village and this family owns one cow.  Each day they live from the milk of the cow.  If there is little milk, they eat little.  It there is lots of milk, they eat well.   The lives of the mother, the father and the children depend on the cow. One autumn day, a traveller stops in the village. He is hungry, so the family shares their milk.  The traveller is grateful, so he wishes to return the favour and help the family.  He doesn’t know how to help the family, but he hears that there is a wise man in the village.  He walks over to the home of the wise man. “I was hungry and the family fed me. I would like to help them. How can I help this family?” The wise man said “Kill the cow.” “Kill it? How can that help them? They depend for their lives on that cow.” The wise man repeated “Kill the cow.” The traveller was nervous about that strange recommendation, but at the end he did it.  He was...
