#005 HOSPITAL WINDOW

Two old men, both very sick were in the same hospital room.

One of them, Walter had a serious illness. He was in the bed next to a window and during the afternoon, he sat down for an hour or two.

The other man, Frank was in hospital for only a week and his bed was far from the window and doctors told him not to stand up,
only to go to the toilet that was next to him. He felt really sad, he couldn’t see outside because the window was far, so
every afternoon when Walter was sitting, Frank asked him about what he could see outside and he described a park with a beautiful lake, children playing and people walking across the trees and this description makes Frank very happy.

He noticed that more than any doctor or medicine, Walter’s description save him from depression.

One day, unfortunately, Walter passed away. Frank was very sad because more than a friend Walter was a brother to him, so he remember the beautiful descriptions he used to say, so he asked the nurse if he could move to the bed next to the window where his friend used to be, she said yes.
When, finally, he had some energy to sit up in the bed, he looked out. To his surprise, he could only see a blank wall outside the window. He couldn’t believe it and he asked the nurse about it.

Frank was almost in shock when the nurse told him that Walter was blind.

There are many versions of this story, here is a video similar to this one, I hope you like them

This is really thought-provoking, there are many ways to ponder on why the blind man invented that story. Share it with your friends and comment.

  1. Maybe the last that Walter wanted to saw, was a beautiful lake. I think that's was his dream.

    1. Indeed, his dream was to see a beautiful landscape, but apart from that he wanted to help his friend by telling him something that could cheer him up.

  2. Many people spend their whole lives looking for happiness, focusing on things that give them pleasure to themselves, when in reality we don't have to look to much, because many times happiness is in making others happy. As in the Bible, the person who gives is more blessed than the person who receives. Nice story! you really made me think, thanks for that.

    1. True that! For instance God is good to all of us (even with our sins) and I imagine he enjoys seeing us happy, we should do the same, shouldn't we?

  3. I think walter understand that the best cure for anything is happiness, although he was blind I think that what he describes it was what he hope to see someday, and he want to help his friend sharing that beautiful view tha he had in his head because he was sure it would transmit peace.

  4. Well, I think that nobody should believe in anyone or anything because in some cases, people lie thinking that maybe this is the best for us and many time is not and we end dissapointed when we know the truth.

    1. Interesting point of view Teo, however If I'm not wrong I guess Abraham Lincoln once said "Believing everyone is dangerous, but believing nobody is more dangerous" as you said many times people fail us, however if we don't trust anyone we will become hollow, really empty, without anything inside us, because the way we are and what we say or think show what we are made of

  5. Oh... it's a beautiful history with an interesting message for us. Walter had many problems in her life, he was blind and he had a serious illness, but the difficults that he dad couldn't stop her happiness. He didn't stay lamenting for her life and all that he did was enjoy it. That's the message: Enjoy the life, 'cause it's too short to lamenting.

    1. Right Ronald it is a beautiful story, and Walter's life was very difficult, his difficulties were more than being blind but still he was a great person to make others feel nice. His mercy was an example for us, it is hard but sometimes I see many people who can help others homeless or who are in the street, not only with money but with some food, hoever they prefer to ignore which is really painful.

  6. To be honest, this story made me think many things. Mostly, sad.
But, in the end I have the conclusion.
Maybe Walter lied to Frank or maybe not. Its depends on the points of view of each other.
But, at the end the things that Walter told to Frank, it helped in Frank's health.

    Best Regards

Really good history, Walter was very happy, that despite being blind he imagined all this outside the window and transmitted this happiness to his friend and with this he achieved that his friend was saved from depression.
Thanks to walter Frank felt happy

  8. As far I am concernerd, this story leave many messages for thinking.
    First message :
Why Walter told to Frank about beautiful places and the people that was outside the window?.
In my opinion, exist people that to prefer the happiness of another persons over hiselves happines.
When I visit to the hospital (for work),I always see many people help themselves, because it is a place where the mayority people are sick and they nothing have more to do thath one person becomes the support of another person.
    Second message:
The best cure for the depress in a paciente, many times is the support of theirs families and emotional support ,the medicines not always is the best cure, many people need to be listen and loved.
Third message to learn and I consider the most important, we can not always avoid whath surrounds us,however the life to offer us a unique opportunity and we should face whith a possitive acttitude , each person have the decisions in his hands all time, you can see the life as you like black or whith colours.

  9. Frankly I consider that the story was a little sad but give us a good message that is to make happy the people that need it like Walter do all of that and imagine a nice place to tell it to Frank and he feels well. Support and help people when they are sad makes you feel more confortable and makes you a better person.

  10. To be honest, I consider this history so great because Walter teached you that a person always have to see the god way of the live even so you would be in a bad moment, but I'm not so agree with it because for more the truth is hard always you have to know it and the better moment to say it is in the beginning of the situation. Another hand the persons as Walter always have to exist because they are who make you happy even if you are in a bad moment.
