#042 WHO IS THE HAPPIEST?
A crow lived in the forest and was absolutely satisfied in life. But one day he saw a swan. “This swan is so white,” he thought, “and I am so black. This swan must be the happiest bird in the world.”
He expressed his thoughts to the swan. “Actually,” the swan replied, “I was feeling that I was the happiest bird around until I saw a parrot, which has two colors. I now think the parrot is the happiest bird in creation.” The crow then approached the parrot. The parrot explained, “I lived a very happy life until I saw a peacock. I have only two colors, but the peacock has multiple colors.”
The crow then visited a peacock in the zoo and saw that hundreds of people had gathered to see him. After the people had left, the crow approached the peacock. “Dear peacock,” the crow said, “you are so beautiful. Every day thousands of people come to see you. When people see me, they immediately shoo me away. I think you are the happiest bird on the planet.”
The peacock replied, “I always thought that I was the most beautiful and happy bird on the planet. But because of my beauty, I am entrapped in this zoo. I have examined the zoo very carefully, and I have realized that the crow is the only bird not kept in a cage. So for past few days, I have been thinking that if I were a crow, I could happily roam everywhere.”
That’s our problem too. We make unnecessary comparison with others and become sad. We don’t value what God has given us. This all leads to the vicious cycle of unhappiness. Learn to be happy in what you have instead of looking at what you don’t have. There will always be someone who will have more or less than you have. Person who is satisfied with what he/she has, it is the happiest person in the world.
The moral of this story is reflected in the fact that sometimes many people are not happy with their appearance. They, most of the time, complain about what they have or don’t have. This leads to not living happily and feeling dissatisfied with themselves. They think that happiness depends on having more than others. In addition, they are not able to see beyond appearances. Why do we have to desire what others have and not be happy with what we already have?
ReplyDeletePersonally, I believe that we should be happy accepting and loving us just as we are, as God created us.
I couldn't agree more, Jashira as you said many people hate seeing themselves in the mirror because they found thousands of bad things, this is closely related to low self-esteem. You must love the person you are, and work hard in being a great person, if people work more in changing their inner defects instead of being so superficial, we would have a better world.
Deletenobody is perfect and sometimes we forgot the good we have. I believe that one must accept as to continue growing.
ReplyDeleteRight! However more than accepting ourselves as we are, we should love ourselves so we'll be able to grow and broaden our skills being humble and united without mocking of others.
DeleteA good point to reflection on life. The main message of this story is search your happiness in yourself, accepting you as you are.
ReplyDeleteIn my view, each person has defects and qualities in the body, in the way of behaving, in the lifestyle and in the ability to develop certain skills. But, did you choose the body or the body is a product of the genes inherited from your parents? Take care of your best machine that is your body because it wil allow you to live. In addition to this, you can choose a good lifestyle, how to behave during the day and what skills to improve in your life. Just enjoy giving your best.
Gr8! Stop looking for happiness in others :) it is in you!!! as once I heard or read a saying: "Happiness is when what you think, what you say and whay you do are in harmony"
DeleteThis reflection on life is so real that sometimes it seems silly to speak it so that others realize that we need to accept and love as we are. Because nobody is perfect and we are always going to be looking at the other with an erroneous concept of happiness. And we need to know that the happiness of them is different of our happiness. In conclusion, the happiness makes yourself with little things but it's your happiness.
ReplyDeleteO'rite, little things in life provide a lot of happiness :)
DeleteIn mi opinion accepting yourself as you are, without looking to much around you or what others have, allows you to really appreciate the good things you have and how lucky you really are. I think this is a process, and that you can see it more clearly as you get older. When you are young, maybe, you do not value what you have so much, and you think that by obtaining material things you will be happier, but with the pass of the time that stops having the value that you thought it had. In fact, when you get older, the more you look at yourself and what you have achieved, the less important what others have would be.
