#012 THE SAND AND THE STONE

Two friends were walking through the desert. They had an argument; and
one friend slapped the other in the face.

The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything wrote in
the sand: TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE.

They kept on walking until they found an oasis where they decided to
take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and
started drowning. The friend saved him.

After he recovered, he wrote on a
stone: TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE.

The friend who had slapped and saved asked, "After I hurt you, you
wrote in sand. Then you wrote on a stone when I saved you. Why?"
He replies, "When someone hurts us we should write it in sand where
winds of forgiveness can erase it away. When someone does something good
for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it."

Learn to write your hurts in sand and carve your benefits in stone.

It's said it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to
appreciate them, a day to love them and a lifetime to forget them.

Take time to live! Value who you have in your life.

Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow a mystery.
Today is a gift. That's why it's called the present!"

  1. wow, this is the best reflexion i've ever read!
we should write in the sand all the things that hurt us, but it is no easy... There are some things, some actions and some people that touch our life in some way.
So, where should we write feelings? in sand or stone?
In fact, i think you never forget things, you only ovecome them....

    1. That's a good point, I mean it's hard to forgive, well about what we should do with out feelings, it's up to any person, the reflection is not about forgiving people who hit you, but about forgiving things which happen only once, plus overcoming is part of growing up.

  2. I like it because when it says After hurting you, you wrote in sand. Then you wrote on a stone when I saved you. Why? "With my words, I would say that in life, situations that will make us happy or sad, but only in our hearts will those special and unforgettable moments be kept that in the future we will realize that our life was not bad. Life is to enjoy it and discover things that we had no idea of them or other things that we did not have clear.

  4. Hi, I’m Dafne
This reflection had left me in shock because it has a relation with something that I’m going through. We are humans and we can make mistakes. The detail is in forgive, because someone can forgive but never forget. What is more, sometimes people make many mistakes that one gets tire of saying “ It’s OK” or “there’s no problem”. I think, for more that we are going to forgive someone, not always the friendship will be the same.

    1. I don't know what you are or were going through but I hope you are better now, well it's difficult to forget and sometimes almost impossible but resentment destroys your mind and body, it really damages anything like friendship or love, think about it, I'm not telling you to forgive all the time and continue as if nothing is going on, but to forgive and be careful.

My teacher taught me that insignificant punches should be avoided, if someone hits you but does not cause any harm the incident should be taken calmly and forgive. Or otherwise when there is no other opportunity after receiving a blow, I teach, that if you offer someone a gap to attack, you must put yourself in the worst. The first teaching transmits tolerance and confidence and the second recommends constant vigilance.

  6. I really like this reflection. i think it is very good because it is based on an important truth that not many people follow, which is: the forgiveness and to appreciate what transcends the time and the space.
