#017 WHY IS LOVE BLIND?

A long time ago, before the world was created and humans set foot on it for the first time, virtues and vices floated around and were bored, not knowing what to do. One day, all the vices and virtues were gathered together and were more bored than ever.

Suddenly, Ingenious came up with an idea: "Let's play hide and seek!" All of them liked the idea and immediately Madness shouted: "I want to count, I want to count!" And since nobody was crazy enough to want to seek Madness, all the others agreed. Madness leaned against a tree and started to count: "One, two, three..."

As Madness counted, the vices and virtues went hiding. Tenderness hung itself on the horn of the moon, Treason hid in a pile of garbage. Fondness curled up between the clouds and Passion went to the centre of the earth. Lie said that it would hide under a stone, but hid at the bottom of the lake, whilst Avarice entered a sack that he ended up breaking. And Madness continued to count: "...seventy nine, eighty, eighty one..."

By this time, all the vices and virtues were already hidden - except Love. For undecided as Love is, he could not decide where to hide. And this should not surprise us, because we all know how difficult it is to hide Love.

Madness: "...ninety five, ninety six, ninety seven..." Just when Madness got to one hundred, Love jumped into a rose bush where he hid. And Madness turned around and shouted: "I'm coming, I'm coming!"

As Madness turned around, Laziness was the first to be found, because Laziness had no energy to hide far from there. Then he spotted Tenderness in the horn of the moon, Lie at the bottom of the lake and Passion at the centre of the earth. One by one, Madness found them all - except Love. Madness was getting desperate, unable to find Love.

Envious of Love, Envy whispered to Madness: "You only need to find Love, and Love is hiding in the rose bush."

Madness grabbed a wooden pitch fork and stabbed wildly at the rose bush. Madness stabbed and stabbed until a heartbreaking cry made him stop. Love appeared from the rose bush, covering his face with his hands. Between his fingers ran two trickles of blood from his eyes. Madness, so anxious to find Love, had stabbed out Love's eyes with a pitch fork. "What have I done! What have I done!" Madness shouted. "I have left you blind! How can I repair it?"

And Love answered: "You cannot repair my eyes. But if you want to do something for me, you can be my guide."

And so it came about that from that day on, Love is blind and is always accompanied by Madness.

  1. I always knew that love was blind but now I understand why jajajaa
It's a funny story that try to justify the blidness of love. However, I'd like to know the real reason someday, why you make many mistakes because of love...

    1. In my point of view there's no a real reason, love is blind because the majority of times we focus on things we like such as personality or sometimes people put up with stuff they shouldn't, plus if we make mistakes it is because it is part of the process of learning and also because we don't think carefully about what we are doing, emotions you know.

  2. I think that love is the basis of all emotions. And why do I say this? Because of love, we are not only capable of going mad, but also of being passionate, tender, or even envious. But all this is because of love. But I do not think we can feel love because of madness, of envy or tenderness... Well, I 've always thought that when two people love each other they're able to do crazy things because of love :)

    1. Definitely, love is a divine gift which impels us to go out of ourselves to reach out to others, not only passionate love but also love to our friends, friends and even strangers such as beggars. It is beautiful mistery :)

  3. I really like the story , i would say that it's pretty similar in real life . Love always hide its self in places so much close to us but for some reason unreachable for the common eyes .

  4. It seems to me that the most common and often stronger human sentiments are represented by the characters of the story. Even when sometimes it's hard to understand and put them in order, the author gives us an approachable view of the universal grasp of human feelings.

The mainly purpose of the story is trying to explain in a brief leyend the believing of why love is blind with familiar and wellknown elements, such a playgrond, the "hide and seek" game and the complicity to play with friends in despite of the differences. It reminds us to our childhood, which is probably the most impressionable and sensitive time in our lifes, reflecting this way, the of fickleness feelings.

I consider that the moral of this reflection is about denying, apparently rational thougts in order to follow the desires and dictations of a usually incipient, capricious and unstable blind love.

    1. Great Alejandra, you've got it, your words are full of wisdom, just be careful with the spelling of some words such as playground and thoughts, but anyway the message is clear, you mentioned our childhood which was an amazing time and if we compare it to this tale cus' in my humble opinion, I consider it is full of truthfulness. :)

The story is beautiful, love is blind because we usually trust others and we think that they will never hurt us but we do not realize that not everything is what we want it to be. :')

  6. I think the love is blind because when you fall in love you do crazy stuff. For example last weekend I watched in the Miraflores Park a wedd proposition. The guy was doing paraglidy and when he was on the air he showed a paper that said "Would you married me? " And the girl screamed Yes! and the started cried. It was so amazing to see this crazy proposition because I can`t imagine to do something similar.

  8. This is a beautiful story that tell us about the origin of the curious phrase that we ever heard " Love is blind". But , why? I had no idea. And even what was the relation between love and madness. After reading the story , I understood . It's a really entertaining and imaginative way to explain it . We know it's just a story but some parts of it are real. For example; we're not blind, but when someone makes us feel good and comfortable , the apperence is not important. Also , I think love is related with madness in a good way because couples don't care about the opinions of others , they just want to make feel happy to his or her couple...💙
