#036 FIVE MORE MINUTES

While at the park one day, a woman sat down next to a man on a bench near a playground.
"That's my son over there," she said, pointing to a little boy in a red sweater who was gliding down the slide.
"He's a fine looking boy" the man said.
"That's my son on the swing in the grey sweater." He added.
Then, looking at his watch, he called to his son. "What do you say we go, Todd?"
Todd pleaded, "Just five more minutes, Dad. Please? Just five more minutes."

The man nodded and Todd continued to swing to his heart's content. Minutes passed and the father stood and called again to his son. "Time to go now?"
Again Todd pleaded, "Five more minutes, Dad. Just five more minutes." The man smiled and said, "O.K."
"My dear, you certainly are a patient father," the woman responded.
The man smiled and then said, "My older son Tommy was killed by a drunk driver last year while he was riding his bike near here. I never spent much time with Tommy and now I'd give anything for just five more minutes with him. I've vowed not to make the same mistake with Todd. He thinks he has five more minutes to swing. The truth is, I get five more minutes to watch him play."

  1. I totally agree with the man and in fact, I feel very sad about what happened to his older son. In my opinion, he's very brave. It's true that nobody knows neither the day nor the place in which we'll leave this world. We ought to try to spend as much time as possible with our loved ones and above all, try to make them happy through unforgettable moments. The text of the image is definitely true, the man of the story is a great example of it. Let's look on the bright side of every situation and keep in calm because God will never leave us alone, even in the most difficult circumstances. :)

    1. Oh yeah, nonetheless we get carried away by routine and you know, work, studies, etc, that's why when we want to give time to our beloved ones, it's so little and we feel so weary that we don't realise it and even if we do, we just regret but don't change it, I wish I could, in fact we can do it but we have to organise our time appropiately so that we give it to them, blessings

    1. I totally agree with you, however sometimes we say we don't have enough time because we don't organise it and make a schedule. Now, talking about losing a special person, it is something will happen sooner or later :( the point is we forget and live as if we were everlasting...

  3. I agree with the man because It's necessary enjoy time with our relatives. In this story, he wanted spend time with his son while he was remember about his other son. To be honest, We should spend time with our children, specially when they are 5 year or less because they need our help. In addition to this, all people learn about their experience. Finally, I totally agree with the image because all the time we need to see the good in different situation and the man is a good example.

    1. Indeed, the time we spend with our kids is priceless, however sometimes it is difficult cus' of the way of living we face nowadays.
Seeing the good in every situation is something as hard as trying to be calm when someone tries to annoy you, especially when it is unfair, but you know (whoever you are) it is not impossible. Thanks for your comment even when you didn't write your name.

  4. I totally agree with the conclusion of your post. From my point of view, people generally live believing that people and things are forever. For example, we believe that when we leave home to go to work, our mother will be there when we return. Or when we fall in love, we are so sure that our boyfriend o girlfriend will be forever, and this means that many times we don’t try to value them. However, life has shown us that everything has a cycle. Everything that is born perishes. Everything that has a beginning ends. But, in spite of this, we must learn to live it authentically. We should appreciate every moment. Because the time that is lost does not return. So, we must enjoy every moment and part that life offers us.

    1. Rite philosopher, what you said reminds me of these words which were said by Kabir: "Many have died, you also will die. The drum is being beaten. The world hs fallen in love with a dream. Only sayings of the wise will remain." I mean we are going to die, nothings lasts forever and we are no exception so even when it's difficult to remember it, we should do it only in that way it would be easier to live in peace and be tolerant to mistakes especially from others, besides we will value our dear ones.
Take care, it's been a pleasure to teach you and the great group God let me meet, I'll miss you all, by the way I'm about to publish one of my favourite stories, hope you have the opportunity to read it and like it as well.

  5. It´s totally true, you don't know what you have until it's gone. We are so use to being surronded by our family, friends and acquaintances that we don´t realize how lucky we are of having them; why we need to wait until they are gone to notice it? i guess people needs to feel pain to have conscious, but this story works like "that pain" and now I hope I´ll never forget the message!

    1. Absolutely Nicol, it is kinda that pain you mentioned, however it is so simple to feel that or imagine this story as real and value the ones surround us as our family and friends but then we forget it and again we don't give them the time and love we ought to give them everyday and actually every minute :)
