#038 JUDGE ME BY THE FOOTPRINTS I LEAVE BEHIND
A story is told about a soldier who was finally coming home after having fought in Vietnam.
He called his parents from San Francisco.
"Mom and Dad, I'm coming home, but I've got a favour to ask.
I have a friend I'd like to bring with me."
"Sure," they replied, "we'd love to meet him."
"There's something you should know" The son continued,
"he was hurt pretty badly in the fighting. He stepped
on a land mined and lost an arm and a leg. He has
nowhere else to go, and I want him to come live with us."
"I'm sorry to hear that, son.
Maybe we can help him find somewhere to live." The mother said
"No, Mom and Dad, I want him to live with us."
"Son," said the father, "you don't know what you're asking.
Someone with such a handicap would be a terrible burden on us.
We have our own lives to live, and we can't let something
like this interfere with our lives. I think you should just
come home and forget about this guy. He'll find a way to
live on his own."
At that point, the son hung up the phone. The parents heard
nothing more from him.
A few days later, however, they received a call from the
San Francisco police. Their son had died after falling from a
building, they were told. The police believed it was suicide.
The grief-stricken parents flew to San Francisco and were taken
to the city morgue to identify the body of their son. They
recognized him, but to their horror they also discovered something
they didn't know, their son had only one arm and one leg.
The parents in this story are like many of us. We find it easy
to love those who are good-looking or fun to have around, but
we don't like people who inconvenience us or make us feel
uncomfortable. We would rather stay away from people who
aren't as healthy, beautiful, or smart as we are.
Thankfully, there's someone who won't treat us that way.
Someone who loves us with an unconditional love that
welcomes us into the forever family, regardless of how
messed up we are.
Tonight, before you tuck yourself in for the night, say
a little prayer that God will give you the strength you
need to accept people as they are, and to help us all be
more understanding of those who are different from us!!!
Suicide is not the right way to escape or the solution to our problems, killing ourselves just shows we give up our dreams, we should love ourselves enough to understand there are good times and bad times in our lives, but the most important thing is to overcome any terrible situation we face, sometimes our friends and family won't help because those are not the real friends and some relatives maybe are envious or there is a reason why they don't do that, God knows why he let it happen.

There's a miracle called -Friendship- that dwells in the heart.
You don't know how it happens or when it gets started. But you
know the special lift It always brings and you realize that
Friendship is one of God's most precious gift!
Friends are a very rare jewel, indeed, they can be part of your relatives so they can be family members. They make you smile
and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share a
word of praise, and they always want to open their hearts to us.
Show your friends and family how much you care... And if you like it, share it.
It is a sad story, which lend me to think that we can be incharge of our parents or relatives who could will be handicap in the future, because the love we feel for them. If there is somebody out of our family or friend it is difficult to accept this person to live with us. We don’t put ourselves in the same shoes.

That's true Julio, It is difficult to be in charge of handicapped people, worse still is the fact that people don't care about anyone who is not part of his or her family. As a matter of principle, we ought to help everyone who needs us. Wow to be honest I have seen even families that don't mind leaving their old parents alone. Hard to believe it.
DeleteI felt sad while I was reading this story. It' s true. People like to share activities with people who are beautiful, healthy and smart, but when they have to work with people who have a disability, they despise them. This shouldn't happen! We must accept others because they are also humans, they have feelings and deserve a good treatment.
ReplyDeleteThis story makes me remember my students, they aren't equal, some of them they are good at science and maths, but others aren't. I try to help those they aren't not good at the course I teach until they're more confident. I treat each student like he was my brother, friend or son and they value that.

Great reflection! If we talk about school subjects as you said we should care more about the ones who try to make an effort to understand, but also try to find a way they like the subject so if would be easier for them to learn. It's a tough task, yet not impossible.
DeleteIt's a very sad story, but unfortunately, this happens every day. We think that disabled people are less than us and that is why we treat them bad and it is worse if it is a relative or friend, we ignore them without thinking about how it affects them because we only think about ourselves. but in spite of this, they value much more the small things that we don't give them the importance and they give us a great lesson of life. In my opinion, we should all treat each other well and give love to disabled people because it could happen to us in the future and we wouldn't like to be treated like that.

Right Daniela! Just keep in mind that we should treat people well, no matter their social status, colour, religion, etc. "Treat others as you would have them treat you"
DeleteIt is a very sad story, and unfortunately happens every day in our time. There will always be people who look with bad eyes at people with a disability, there are also others who will help and accept them. Friendship is something irreplaceable, it is an unbreakable bond between two or more people, and that's why it must be valued.

Very good point of view Jair, real friendship is hard to find but it lasts forever.
