#045 THE BLACK SPOT
One day a professor entered the classroom and asked his students to prepare for a surprise test. They waited anxiously at their desks for the test to begin. The professor handed out the question paper, with the text facing down as usual. Once he handed them all out, he asked his students to turn the page and begin. To everyone’s surprise, there were no questions….just a black dot in the center of the page.
The professor seeing the expression on everyone’s face, told them the following:
The professor seeing the expression on everyone’s face, told them the following:
“I want you to write what you see there.”
The students confused, got started on the inexplicable task.
The students confused, got started on the inexplicable task.
At the end of the class, the professor took all the answer papers and started reading each one of them aloud in front of all the students. All of them with no exceptions, described the black dot, trying to explain its position in the middle of the sheet, etc. etc. etc. After all had been read, the classroom silent, the professor began to explain:
“I am not going to grade on you this, I just wanted to give you something to think about. No one wrote about the white part of the paper. Everyone focused on the black dot – and the same happens in our lives. We have a white paper to observe and enjoy, but we always focus on the dark spots. Our life is a gift given to us by God, with love and care, and we always have reasons to celebrate – nature renewing itself everyday, our friends around us, the job that provides our livelihood, the miracles we see everyday…….
However we insist on focusing only on the dark spots – the health issues that bother us, the lack of money, the complicated relationship with a family member, the disappointment with a friend etc
The dark spots are very small compared to everything we have in our lives, but they are the ones that pollute our minds.
Take your eyes away from the black spots in your life. Enjoy each one of your blessings, each moment that life gives you.
Be happy and live a life positively!
The text that you publish is a great reflection. I agree with you, we must focus on the positive things that happen to us and that surround us. There will always be problems and we will have bad times, but we should not concentrate on the negative, we should be positive before that.
ReplyDeleteMany people focus only on the negative, leaving aside the good that happens to them. We must always be positive and remove the bad thoughts that do not allow us to move forward. We should not drown in a glass of water about what happens to us, but we should look for alternatives that help us overcome those moments. Having positive people around influences us a lot because they help us to be better people. Before any obstacle we should smile at life and this reflection makes us very clear, that we should not only look at that "black dot" of our lives, we are a white book which we should write with superations and know that we have to improve day a day.
-Juan Pablo Champa Alva
Correct Juan Pablo not only we should but we must be positive in any circumstance, we have to surmount every obstacle that might appear and be thankful to God for them cus' they are supposed to make us better people, however life is beautiful and it is a blessing given by God.
DeleteOne thing I would like to say is that most of us focus on negative situations and I must confess that sometimes we do it and we don't realize
ReplyDeleteI think we worry too much about negative things and our optimism disappears, most of us complain and we become victims of everything
even so we can improve that attitude and everything starts from the moment we get up, I mean, you choose if you want to be a victim or protagonist of your day and your life
I totally agree, sometimes we don't realise we focus on the negative part instead of looking at the bright side, perhaps it is cus when we watch news or buy a newspaper 95% of them are negative and bad news, anyway we don't have to use excuses to absolve ourselves of the responsibility of the way we see the world. Thanks for your great comment.
DeleteAbsolutely, sometimes we need to read this type of texts to make a pause in our lives and realize that we have so many positive reasons to enjoy of our friends, relatives, in general, of our live and also to be thankful for that. Personally, I believe that always there's gonna be some black spots, sometimes a lot or in others cases a few of them but everything depends on our aptitude for get rid of them and try to focus in the good aspects of our live in order to inspire us to find the solution if they have or be mature enough for accept them.
