#059 THE SEASONS OF LIFE
There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn to not judge things too quickly. So he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look at a pear tree that was a great distance away.
The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in summer, and the youngest son in the fall.
When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe what they had seen.
The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted.
The second son said no – it was covered with green buds and full of promise.
The third son disagreed, he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen.
The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfilment.
The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they had each seen but one season in the tree’s life.
He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season, and that the essence of who they are – and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life – can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons are up.
If you give up when it’s winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, fulfilment of your fall.
Don’t judge a life by one difficult season. Don’t let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest.
I agree with this little story because try to explain that people will always go through good or bad times. However, we shouldn’t judge ourselves about our life or situation by just visualizing the moment we are going through in that moment. Instead of it, we should see all the context, do not self-criticize in an insane way, and try to continue to achieve what one proposes.
ReplyDeleteGood way to interpret it, we all go through tough times, don't judge anybody because if you do it, you are fool. We don't have to take advantage of anybody even if they are on the floor, they will stand up, I'm talking in a metaphorical way.
DeleteI think that is a very deep story. It is talking about people judging each other. Thinking in a selfish way. But we shouldn't think like that. We should be of mind opened. And don't close ourselves.
ReplyDeleteAs you know we are formed of several layers. Each of them has a different meaning, differents feelings and thoughts. If we see each of them individually we won't contemplate the essence of the others layers.
Being open minded to accept people for who they are and understand their point of views, not necessarily to agree with them but not to judge them. Good Mateo
DeleteI think this story want to teach us that we don't have to judge people for their appearance , first we
ReplyDeletehave to meet the person , treat them and then give their opinion about them without hurting them.
Right, you said first we have to know more about a person to create an idea based on something objective rather than subjective, the question is: do we do it?
DeleteAn interesting story, and it is right. you can not judge a person without know him/her, you don't know what a person could be thinking or living, you have to know the person and then you can decide if you want that person to enter in your life. nowadays most people judge anyone for it's social status, appearence, money, etc. maybe this story could help people understand that judge other persons is bad.
ReplyDeletePerhaps Maria Jose, however I know that in a way it can influence to change our world by understanding that we must be tolerant not only with people that have different beliefs or support any political parties but also with the ones that criticise the rest.
DeleteI loved this story and it talks about something true in our society. I don't understand why most of us judge, in my opinion judge everyone for their social status, money, appereance is awful because you can hurt them seriously. In my point of view I think everybody should tell this story to make a better place. Because together we can make a difference.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, this story presents a topic that is very easy to understand and put in practice with other people.
ReplyDeleteEach person live for difficult moments in their life and this affects his personality or how treat lot the rest of people, but that is not why you have to judge them, we must be their support so that they realize that we want to know them as they really are, and not in a time when they do not act as they daily do.Definitely this story will live in my heart forever!

In my opinion I think the story is good because you should not judge people without knowing them well and you should not give up before any situation things change with time and that metaphor you use to explain it in a story is very good. -- Lady crespo
ReplyDeleteFrom my point of view, I think that this story is great to teach that before to judge people, first of all we should know very well to them, not only we should know them in a moment of their lifes else we should know the good moments and the bad moments of a person like a summary of their life to be able to judge that person. - Victor Espiritu
ReplyDeleteA good message about the season of life, nowadays many peoples are very superficial, we continually allow ourselves to be influenced by the first impression and we judge really without knowing of that person, for example, When we meet someone who is at the worst moment in their life and we judge without knowing that this person is capable of advance with intelligence and a lot of perseverance, in the future he will be a prosperous businessman.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the moral of the story. Nowadays, people tend to judge others by how they look or react in a certain moment. They make this opinion even when they don’t know the person at all and don’t consider what he or she is going through.
ReplyDeleteEach person has to deal with many difficulties in life, can have good and bad moments, but if you decide how someone else’s essence is by only seeing one “season” of his or her life you are totally wrong. So, if you have to say something about a person, first take your time to know him or her well and then give your opinion.
