#064 ARE YOU HAPPY?

Once at an elegant welcome reception to the new Marketing Director of an important company, some of the other directors' wives, who wanted to meet the new Marketing Director's wife, asked her: Does your husband really make you happy?

Her husband who wasn't with her at the moment, but close enough to hear the question, paid attention to the conversation and came closer to his wife because he was sure enough that she was going to say yes, due to the fact that she has never complained during the marriage.

However to his surprise and the ones who attended to the reception she answered: "No, he doesn't make me happy"

After a moment of awkward silence where her husband was petrified because he couldn't believe what she said and especially in such an important occasion for him, she repeated and continued: "He doesn't make me happy, I'm happy!"
Then she added: "If I'm happy or not, it doesn't depend on him, it depends on me, I'm the only one from whom my happiness depends on, I am determined to be happy in every moment and situation because if my happiness depended on other person, thing or circumstance, I would be in deep trouble."

Finally she concluded: "All that exists in this life is constantly changing: human beings, wealth, our bodies, weather, pleasures and I could say an endless list. Throughout my life I have learnt something which every person must know, I decide to be happy and the rest is experience or circumstances, I love him and he loves me, despite what happens to him or to me. He changes, I change, the environment changes, everything changes; having love and real forgiveness, and observing those changes, which maybe are strong or not but they exist, we have to face them with the love we have to each other, if we both love and forgive each other; those changes will be only experiences or circumstances that enrich us and make us stronger, otherwise we would be a simple couple like the majority because to them the solution is divorce, actually it is the easiest way out. Truly love is tough, it is to give your love and to forgive unconditionally, to live taking experiences and circumstances as they are, dealing with them together, being happy for conviction."

As you can see my dear friends in this beautiful story we could see what real happiness is, and where it is. Inside of us, so don't waste your time looking it in others, helping others make us happy but it is because happiness is inside of us.

There are people who say I can't be happy because I'm sick, because I don't have money, because it is too hot, because somebody offended me, because somebody doesn't love me or broke up with me or took me for granted.
Being happy is an attitude towards life and it is your choice.

To be happy only depends on YOU!

  1. Aristotle said that the purpose of life is to be happy. The meaning of life is happiness. However, to be honest, this is not easy.
People usually relate happiness to what other people or things or circumstances make them feel. and it is enough that we do not have one of them so that our life can be
miserable. And it is while we all want to be happy to know how to achieve it is not easy. However, what we must learn to understand is that everything changes in life. Absolutely everything. And in that change we are also included. And as everything changes constantly, we only have ourselves, therefore, there is no one more responsible for our happiness than ourselves. And only when we understand it, we will understand that to be happy we must not relate our happiness to any thing or person. Althoug it is not easy some day we will have to understand it.

    1. Indeed, I'm not craz about her but in he place where I work, they play Mercedes Sosa songs and sing sometimes. The one you showed me in the link is one of my favorites as well as "Solo le pido a Dios". The lyrics are so profound and they are really thought-provoking. By the way talking about this topic you shall read story #24 "A lesson on forgiveness", I'm positive that you'll like it.

  2. When I finished reading this reflection on where to find happiness ?, I remembered a phrase: "Happiness is interior, not exterior, therefore it does not depend on what we have but on what we are". I completely agree, we can not walk through life with the belief that happiness depends on others, because we will always be looking for what we lack. To find happiness in us we must learn to love us, accept us and live with oneself. I believe that is the key to finding happiness. Good story!

  4. Many people think that money can buy happiness, but do you really need money to be happy? it ´s absolutely wrong. To be happy doesn´t depend on money or material things. Happiness depends on ourselves, as the story says “being happy for conviction”. To be happy it´s a decision making everyday, for example I´ m happy when I hug my son or daughter. I believe someone who gives love and gets love is happy

  5. The couple is very important un our lifes.
Many people get depressed when they finish a relationship, but it is part of the constant learning of life.
I always hear: 'If you fall, you must get up'. I think is a good way to think.
But to be happy only depends of you.

  6. Being happy is an attitude towards life and it is your choice: this paragraph seems very interesting. Happiness depends only on each one, and not only does money make people happy, each person is free to choose their happiness, you do not need anyone tell you how to be happy remember, just depend on you.

Being happy only depends on you!

  7. When I was 11 years old I felt really sad for everything I did wrong, but one day I started to think why spend all this time sad ... is not going to happen anyway? from that day I decided that what happens to me as sad as it is will not affect me as before ... now I will enjoy life to the fullest 🤗

I agree. People have to learn to be happy and to get well. I read a similar example with John Maxwel's wife, I liked her a lot.

  11. This story is so interesting, it is about the way of accepting life, it is true that happiness and sadness are states of humor and this is different in each person and it is much better to understand that the things that surround us have changed. constantly and before these changes we must adapt, we must accept them and move forward.
In a similar way, this story talks about married or couple life, speaks of the need to have a great commitment, acceptance and constant effort; sharing life with another person that is totally different from another is a great challenge, which is addressed by having a good attitude and striving to be happy, this is a great recipe for life. The goal of every human being is always to be happy.

Certainly, nobody teaches us that happiness is in oneself, the biggest mistake we make in the life is to look it in other people. Life is the biggest teacher who teaches us in a painful way.

  15. After reading this article I wonder if everybody knows that we have the key to happiness in front of our noses .
As the article says happiness beging with yourself. How we can like the life that we live if we don't feel confortable with us, how we can expect to have a succesful relationship if we don't love ourself . Is such a dumb idea to think that we have to depend on another person or thing to be happy. Maybe if the whole world knew this "secret" our lives would be calmer.

When I decided to read this article, I did not imagine that it would let me think so much and that it would change my cheer up completely. Our happiness does not depend on someone, everything depends on oneself. It has made me reflect and start many things from scratch. I loved reading this article and I would read it a thousand times more. "Happiness is by choice not by chance" :)

  17. I totally agree that happiness doesn't depend on a person, thing or circumstance, but on each one, we can see many "famous" people who can have all, money, fans and everything they want, but they go for bad way trying to find happiness and many of them ended suicide because they feel empty inside

  18. I partially disagree with you, it's true that happiness depends on each one, but behind that happiness are the people who are with you. Personally happiness is the family, the time you spend with them. Behind each person there are parents, brothers or sisters who will always love us in any situation.
Thank you for sharing this story with us!!!

  19. It´s a fact that the majority need to be with other person or in a group to be happy. However is a wrong idea, because when the group or the person let you, obviously you´ll feel sad or in some cases depressed, due to you was dependent on then, the women refers that we doesn´t need other people and our happiness depends only on then. And not less important is enjoy everything and moment we have, incluiding the little things we have, because have the most important things in our life, like our families, a house, oportunities, etc.

  20. I think that to be happy means to embrace to the life, to get up every morning and to face the obstacles that this one presents to us with the best attitude and in a positive way. A happy person doesn' t allow to be conquered by its problems; he learns of them and looks for solutions

  21. I totally agree with that woman (and with you, teacher).
Happiness is something that depends on us, not in another people. We have to decide to be happy, to see the glass half full and the life with colors. If we look happiness in another place but inside us, we will never find out what happiness is.
Beautiful text and easy to understand. Thank you!

I also agree with the woman because happiness isn’t something that you can find in people or things , it’s something that you have to find from yourself and when you find it, you won’t need to depend on others. I liked this story because her answer was something unexpected but it was the truth.

  23. I agree with the story, truly for many people happiness is a person, be rich, or something material so in my opinion the true happiness is inside us, it's a feeling like when you meet your personal goals and also when you being in love and in harmony with yourself and the World. When you don’t know what true happiness is, it’s easy for you to blame and judge everyone and everything around you.
We’re convinced that without meeting someone who love us, we will never be happy on our own because we "don't have" love. In fact, it is the real story of many people but the truth is that we don't need someone else to be happy, if you put your happiness in others hands you will never be truly happy.
    Beautiful story!
