#065 THE MOUSETRAP

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package. "What food might this contain?" the mouse wondered. He was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning:
"There is a mousetrap in the house!
There is a mousetrap in the house!"
The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said "Mr.Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it."
The mouse turned to the pig and told him "There is a mousetrap in the house!
There is a mousetrap in the house!"
The pig sympathized, but said "I am so very sorry, Mr.Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers."

The mouse turned to the cow and said
"There is a mousetrap in the house!
There is a mousetrap in the house!"
The cow said "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose."

So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap alone.
That very night a sound was heard throughout the house - like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey. The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital and she returned home with a fever.

Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient. But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig. The farmer's wife did not get well; unfortunately she passed away.
So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.
The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.

So, my dear friends and acquaintances the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, remember: when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another. Each of us is a vital thread in another person's tapestry. Prayers are really important but if you can help, why don't you do it? Have mercy and God will have mercy to you as well. Besides God do not listen to all prayers, read the next proverbs.

  1. Well, dear blogger
definitely this blog is one of my favorites and this makes me want to read more of them
personally, I think that solidarity, empathy and helping others will make us feel good about ourselves because it makes us feel useful, loved and it will also give us many opportunities for our future
another thing that I would like to mention is that helping someone who asks for it is fine but it would be even better if you offer your help yourself

    1. I appreciate your words Venus, the purpose of this blog is to share stories or poems that can help people like many times they helped me when I needed it. Honestly, there were many moments when I faced tough times and I didn't have something which could help me but God was there. Now, about this story, I agree with you helping make us feeling more than useful, Idk if you have felt something inside after giving a hand and receiving a smile. :)

  2. Beautiful story that makes me reflect on how impassive we are in our society. We walk down the street and we can see that a person is lacking respect or suffering, but before that we become "blind, deaf and dumb", because it is not our problem.
This comes from the training or education we receive in our homes, where priority has been given to material things and respect for others has been forgotten.
We have to remember that the world is spinning and that sooner or later we need someone to help us, so we have to identify with our neighbor.

    1. Wise words Eric, indifference shows how people lack of values and what is worse compassion for others. Sometimes we do not care for our friends or family, so imagine people who we don't know like homeless. Unbelievably, some people don't help them and on top of tap they criticise them. TC

  4. I think it's a nice teaching that we should always try to help people who have problems even when they have nothing to do with us,
because maybe in the future we also have problems and we could need help from others.

  5. Well, Mr Chavez, the story gave me a very important moral. We must help people in the moments that need it most, no matter what the consequences.

First of all, I want to congratulate you for such a great story. I completely agree with the main theme that tells us the story because it is true that every person in a human group has an important role, because people don´t live alone if not depend on the actions that others take and they will also be affected by our decisions and actions, then it is important to think and understand the situation of the people around us and be able to help them.

It's a good story that teaches you the importance of helping people because we don't know when we need help of them.

  8. I really liked this story, I had the opportunity to read some stories from your blog, in fact, there are also other good ones, but this is my favorite. The message of this story is that if we have the possibility to help, we must do it because someday we may also need it.
